There are occasions when questions include punctuation or signs which are not entered into Archivist. For example, in older questionnaires it not unusual to find hyphens where there is a word break due to formatting. In these cases we ignore the hyphen and exclude it from Archivist (Example 12). Additionally, when a bullet point is used followed by text, the bullet point is not entered into Archivist, simply enter the text that comes after it.

Some symbols may display as ASCII characters in Archivist - a common example is a single quote mark displaying as "'". The ASCII characters do not need to be changed to the corresponding symbol in Archivist, as they will appear in CLOSER Discovery as the correct symbol.
