Label Construction for Unnumbered Questions
This page is still under construction.
Label construction for unnumbered questions is dependent on where in the questionnaire the unnumbered question occurs. Unnumbered questions may be:
- Part of the introductory or concluding material of a questionnaire
- A sub-question of a numbered question
- At the same level as the preceding numbered question
- A stand alone question within the body of the questionnaire
Introductory or concluding unnumbered questions
For unnumbered questions that are part of the introduction or conclusion of a questionnaire, the question item/grid/construct label contains the word intro or outro, plus a lower case roman numeral.

Unnumbered sub-questions
If the unnumbered question is a sub-question of a numbered question, the label is made up of the main question number plus a lower case roman numeral. If the main question already ends in a roman numeral, then a lower case letter may be used instead.

Same level unnumbered question
If an unnumbered question is at the same level as the preceding numbered question, then the next logical identifier is added to the end of the question label, e.g. if the preceding numbered question is B6_w, then the label for the following unnumbered question would be B6_x.
(Need example)
Unnumbered stand-alone question
If the unnumbered question stands alone within the body of the questionnaire, the label is constructed using a reference to the section of the questionnaire containing the question, plus a lower case roman numeral. See Example 1 and Example 2 below.
Example 1 Questionnaire: BCS Medical Examination Form 1986
Questions are unnumbered or partially numbered, so section reference is added to labels for clarity.
