Moodle for assessment
Moodle is used for a variety of assessments, including online quizzes and submitting links, videos or document files.
Typically, you will submit your assignment using a submission point within your module's Moodle space. The specifics of submission will be provided in the assignment description. Your Moodle Timeline (on your dashboard) shows a summary of the Due Dates of Moodle based assignments and quizzes.
After submission, Moodle is also where you may receive feedback and grades. To view all your feedback in one place, refer to your Feedback Tracker also on your Moodle dashboard.
The following sections further elaborate on the different types of Moodle-based assessments:
Turnitin assignments with Similarity check
Your module may require you to submit work to a Turnitin Assignment through the Moodle space. Depending on how the assignment has been configured, your Similarity report may be released upon submission, on the Due Date or not at all. This report can aid both staff and students in verifying citations and references to other sources. We recommend all new students complete the Understanding Academic Integrity course to better understand academic good practice. And remember, you can always obtain a Similarity Report for a draft document via the Turnitin Similarity Checker on Moodle.
For guidance on how to submit, refer to the Turnitin Guide.
Moodle Assignment submissions
Your task might involve submitting work to a Moodle assignment. This could be an individual piece of work or a group project. It is broadly similar to a Turnitin Assignment but allows different configuration and administrative options. The teaching team may also activate Turnitin Similarity checking within a Moodle Assignment, which conducts the same text-matching process as a standalone Turnitin assignment.
For additional information, check the Assignment guide.
Moodle Quizzes
Moodle Quiz can include various question types; including multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, matching, gap-fill, short-answer and calculated questions.
If an online exam is coming up on Moodle, it's advisable to practice beforehand. Many modules will provide a dummy quiz to allow you to familiarize yourself with the interface.
Refer to the Student Moodle Quiz Exam Reference for instructions on navigation, saving, and submitting your exam. Also, plan in advance to find a comfortable space to take the quiz, with a power supply and a reliable internet connection. You can familiarize yourself with the Moodle quiz interface using the How well do you know UCL? example quiz on the Digital education at UCL Moodle course.
Feedback Tracker report
This report allows both you to view all the feedback for your Moodle hosted assessment in one place. For further details, refer to the My Feedback report.
