UCL Panopto Quick Start Guide for Students
Accessing Panopto Recordings
Panopto recordings are primarily accessed through Moodle, UCL's Virtual Learning Environment.
Embedded directly within your Moodle page
You will find the Videos placed alongside weekly content or in a dedicated section.
Via Moodle
Log in to Moodle and navigate to your course page.
Look for a link or block titled "Panopto Recordings" or similar. This will take you directly to the Panopto folder for that specific module.
In the folder, you will see a list of all available recordings. Simply click on a video to start watching.
How to logon to UCL Panopto
Go to https://ucl.cloud.panopto.eu.
Enter your UCL username (e.g.,uclabc1@ucl.ac.uk). Click “Next”.
Now enter your usual password.
What features does the Panopto viewer offer?
The Panopto Viewer includes a range of accessibility features to support ease of use. The web interface is compatible with screen readers across both creator and viewer modes, and it supports full keyboard navigation using the tab key. Additionally, all recordings allow for captions to be added and displayed, ensuring content is accessible to all users.
Panopto Video Assessment Submission – Student Guide
Follow the steps below to create or upload your video for assessment using Panopto.
Step 1: Go to the Submission Page
Navigate to your Moodle course’s submission course page.
Look for the link titled “Video submission upload link.” Please check the image below:
Step 2: Open the Panopto Submission Folder
Click on the Video submission upload link — it will take you to the Panopto folder where your video should be uploaded.
Step 3: Create or Upload Your Video
Click the "Create" button in the top-left corner of the Panopto window. You’ll have two options:
Option A: Create Your Video (Using Panopto Capture)
Select “Panopto Capture.”
Click the record button. You’ll get a 5-second countdown before recording starts.
Once finished, click stop — your recording will be automatically saved to the correct submission folder.
Allow processing time equal to the length of your video (e.g., a 10-minute video takes around 10 minutes to process).
Option B: Upload an Existing Video
Click “Upload Media.”
Either drag and drop your video file into the upload box, or click “Choose video or audio files” to browse and select the file from your device.
Once uploaded, the video will begin processing.
Step 4: Copy your link
After uploading your video, you'll need to copy the link. Follow the steps below to do this.
Click 3 dots in the top right corner for more option.
Click “Copy Link”. Your link is now copied.
Step 5: Submit the Video link along with the Text file
Navigate to your Moodle course’s submission page. Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the link title. Please check the image below:
Click the title to enter the submission box.
You will be directed to the submission page.
Click “Add submission” button
You can submit your Text file and the submitted video here. Please see the image below:
To make your link active, please click the “Link option”
and then insert the name and the URL you have copied from Panopto.
Click “Update link”.
