Panopto is UCL’s official platform for recording, storing, and viewing lecture and learning content. Integrated with Moodle, it gives you seamless access to session recordings—ideal for catching up on missed lectures or revisiting complex topics at your own pace.

Recordings can typically be accessed via your Moodle course, directly on the Panopto platform, or through the Panopto mobile app—ensuring a consistent, flexible, and accessible learning experience across a wide range of subjects.

What are the key features of Panopto?

  • Flexible video permissions for UCL users and public audiences

  • Powerful search across transcripts, slides, notes, and chats

  • Interactive quizzes and video-based assessments with Moodle Gradebook integration

  • Auto-chaptering, video summaries, and enhanced accessibility tools

  • Personal playlists, subscriptions, and bookmarking capabilities

  • Mobile app for recording, editing, offline viewing and content management

  • In-depth analytics on engagement, viewing behavior, and assessment performance

Who can use it?

Panopto is available to all UCL staff and students. Whether you're delivering lectures, supporting teaching, or studying, Panopto provides a flexible platform for creating, sharing, and viewing video content across UCL.

When and How to Access Recordings?

Your course tutor or administrator will usually make recordings available shortly after each session. You can access them directly through the relevant Moodle course, allowing you to watch, rewatch, or catch up at your convenience.

  • Embedded directly within your Moodle page – Videos may be placed alongside weekly content or in a dedicated section.

  • Via the Panopto block – Located in the Block Drawer on the right-hand side of your Moodle course, the Panopto block displays the most recent recordings linked to that course. Click on a title to open the video. You’ll be prompted to log in to Panopto if you haven’t already.

If you don’t see any recordings, check with your course team. Not all sessions are recorded, and some videos may take time to process and upload.
