Anonymising Essay Submissions in Moodle Quiz

To anonymise essay submissions for Tutors and Non-editing Tutors, the permissions must be changed by a Course Administrator in Moodle.

Steps

  1. Open the Quiz activity in your course.

  2. Click More in the activity menu.

  3. Select Permissions.

  4. In the Filter field, type see student.

  5. Two capabilities will appear:

  • See student identity fields while grading (email address)

  • See student names while grading

  1. In the Prohibited column, click the plus (+) icon.

  2. Add the roles Tutor and Non-editing Tutor.

Important: Student names will still appear in the table on the Results page. To maintain anonymity while marking, staff with the Tutor or Non-editing Tutor role should grade submissions using the Manual grading option from the grading drop-down menu rather than grading directly from the results table.
