Turnitin Known Issues

Turnitin assignments are duplicated on the Moodle Timeline	21/11/2024	Turnitin Known Issue	Turnitin assignments may currently appear duplicated on the Moodle Timeline when the assignment name was changed via the assignment 'Settings'. Turnitin are not currently able to remove the duplicate from the Moodle Timeline. Turnitin recommend that when renaming Turnitin assignments to do so via the Moodle course home page only (not within the assignment Settings). We shall provide a further update as soon as possible.
Some students may receive the following XML error when attempting to submit to Turnitin. " turnitintooltwo/There was an error when trying to get the user details from Turnitin<br /><br />Message: looks like we got no XML document "	26/07/2024	Turnitin Known Issue (Moodle XML error https://help.turnitin.com/known-issues-integrations.htm#moodleTab)	Turnitin engineers are currently investigating this as a high priority.
Error when entering Feedback Studio. 'The request failed because of a server error'.		Turnitin Known Issue	Turnitin recommend resubmitting on behalf of the student. (Tutors should ensure they take a screenshot of the original submission date/time prior to resubmitting).
'Highlight text' of Microsoft Word (.docx) document submissions not showing in Feedback Studio.	28 Feb 2024	Raised with Turnitin Support	Submit as PDF file. (If already submitted as Word and issue encountered, the course team can make a note of the student's original submission time, and resubmit/ask them to resubmit as a PDF fie. (PDF can be created using File/Save As in Word).
Turnitin - Error when revealing individual identities	April 2024	Turnitin Support suggest updating our Turnitin plugin.	Error received when 'revealing individual identities' within a Turnitin assignment. However the process does work, and after refreshing the web browser page staff will notice that the identity is revealed.
Sometimes marks in the assignment don't transfer into the gradebook	Unknown	Raised with Turnitin Support	This occurs when the Turnitin assignment in Moodle does not synchronise with the Turnitin database. Clicking on Settings for the assignment and clicking Refresh all Grades from Turnitin should sync them.
PeerMark: A bug has been identified in the Peer Assignment distribution. Due to this bug, it is not possible to guarantee the even distribution of Peer reviews between students when the feature "automatic distribution of papers" is selected during the assignment's creation. Also, some students will be able to complete more reviews than those assigned to them.	7 Feb 2017	Raised with Turnitin	Turnitin's engineering department is working on a fix. But as a workaround, instructors are able to manually pair students when creating the assignment in order to guarantee a more even distribution. Alternatively, consider using Moodle Workshop for peer assessment.

Turnitin Quirks - Expected Behaviour

When a teacher clicks rubric icon on the assignment submission page to preview the rubric, it shows a different rubric to the one they attached.	Expected behaviour	When a teacher clicks the rubric icon it opens the rubric editor and shows the first rubric in their library. When students click the same icon they will see the rubric attached to the assignment. To check your rubric and assignment are setup correctly use a test student account.
Allows Post Date to be sooner than the Due Date.	Expected behaviour	This is a feature which has been introduced by design, as it gives the ability for instructors to provide feedback to students who have submitted an assignment, perhaps a first draft. This will allow students to view initial feedback, continue to progress with their assignment and resubmit their assignment until the final due date. (Caution: For anonymised assignments later amending of the Post Date to an earlier date will break anonymity).
When, as a student, you preview a rubric in Turnitin, the Close button doesn't work in Firefox.	Turnitin unable to fix	Please use the 'Close' link top right of screen instead.
Tutor can submit on behalf of a student after due/post date.	Expected Behaviour	Instructors have the ability to resubmit papers after the assignment due date, until the class expires, at which time the class becomes read-only. This option allows instructors to resubmit for a student in case the wrong paper was submitted.
Inconsistent upload of Word for Mac files. Usually files can be submitted without problems, however, on occasion, Turnitin will fail to process the whole document.	Turnitin unable to fix	Open and save the file from Microsoft Office. Save as PDF and resubmit paper.
18 March 21 - Missing line breaks in FS - shows blank space where next page is meant to be. Issue with using Quickmark tool not working properly	Logged issue with TII	Clearing cache seems to resolve issue with line breaks
