Advanced assessment creation: Sequence of Flows
Sequence of Flows can be used when a series of assessments should be passed in a certain order.
An entrance bar can be set for each flow in the sequence. This allows you to control which participants are permitted to synchronise and proceed to the next flow in the sequence.
Create a Sequence of Flows
From the Flow Overview page, click the Create list button (three stripe icon) and select Create Sequence of Flows.
Create the main source flow. This will form the basis of the sequence. For guidance on flow creation, see our guide on Creating a flow from scratch.
Once the main source flow has been created, you can either continue setting up the flow or click the Back to Sequence page button.
From the Sequence page you can add subflows by clicking the + add subflows button. Subflows are added sequentially and will by default inherit the participants from the main source flow when synchronised.
See below for more information on managing the Sequence via the subflow menu, configuration, entrances bar and synchronisation settings.
Note: From the Flow Overview page, all Sequence of Flows that you have created can be reached by clicking on the bars icon button and selecting Go to Sequence of Flows overview.
Subflow menu
All the subflows have access to a small menu, where you can synchronise, activate or delete only the chosen flow.
It is only possible to delete the last flow in a Sequence of Flows. So for example, if you have two subflows and you need to delete subflow 1, you first need to delete subflow 2.
Important: Deleting flows that are part of a Sequence of Flows will remove them immediately from WISEflow and cannot be restored.
Configuration
Click the configuration button to choose what should be synchronised from one flow to the next.
For example, it is possible to synchronise assessors from the source flow to subflow 1 and then choose to exclude them in the synchronisation from subflow 1 to subflow 2.
Entrance Bar
Click the Entrance bar button to set the entrance bar on one or multiple subflows which participants must fulfil to move to the next flow. The options for the entrance bar are None, Submitted or a Minimum Grade.
Synchonise
When you have configured the synchronisations and set the entrance bar between flows, click the Synchronise subflows button to start synchronisation between all flows. You will get a summary window for each stage of the synchronisation, and you can see the changes and choose to apply or skip them.
The synchronisation process is not automatic, you must activate it. There is no restriction on how many times or when you can synchronise the Sequence of Flows.
Note: For changes that have been applied to the main flow to be carried through to the subflows, e.g. removing participants from all flows on a Sequence of Flows, you must synchronise all flows.
Note: If you have 10 flows in the Sequence of Flows, you might not want to synchronise all of them when you have only a minor change between subflow 7 and 8. In this case, you would synchronise only subflow 8 and it will take the information from the previous flow and synchronise them to subflow 8.
Grade Export to SITS/ Portico
It is possible to export the final grades from the main flow and the associated subflows.
The grade export works as you would normally expect (see our guide Sending Grades back to SITS/ Portico) with the exception that you can only export once per participant on the entire Sequence of Flows and not once per flow within the Sequence. You can choose which flow in the Sequence you want to export to SITS/ Portico.
