 It is important to understand that this version of the Marks Transfer Wizard (MTW), will NOT accommodate all assessment scenarios or activities at this time. This version of the MTW is designed to test the core scenarios and activities so that this can be released institutionally wide. Our development team will then based prioritise on user feedback will prioritise and add the additional functionality in an Agile iterative development fashion. This will enable the team to progressively improve the product while still giving benefits from an early stage.

When can I use Mark Transfer? 

You can currently use Mark Push in Moodle if the following conditions are met:

You have used the Portico enrolment block to create a mapping with a Module Delivery to your Moodle course.


Either of the following scenarios is true:-

  • Only one Moodle assessment activity is being linked to one assessment component in SITS.
  • Only one Moodle assessment activity is being linked to multiple assessment components in SITS.




  • The administrator has checked all the Marks (please note the Mark transfer can only be completed ONCE and can't be recalled within Moodle).
  • You are participating in the trial and have editing access on the relevant Moodle course(s).
  • The Marks to be Pushed are part of a course with a mapping to a module delivery (where students are enrolled and assessment takes place).
  • An assessment component exists in SITS to map against.
  • The Marks are for a summative assessment activity.
  • The Moodle assessment type is an assignment, quiz or Turnitin assignment.
  • The Moodle assessment Marks are numerical 0-100.
  • Only one Moodle assessment activity is being linked to one assessment component in SITS.
  • The assessment component in SITS is compatible with SITS Marking Schemes and SITS Assessment Types.
  • For Exam Assessments, the SITS assessment component is the exam room code EXAMMDLE. 

When can't I use Mark Push?

You can't use Mark Push in Moodle if:

  • The administrator has not checked the Marks they wish to Push.
  • You are not participating in the trial and do not have editing access on the relevant Moodle course(s).
  • The Marks to be Pushed are part of a course without a mapping to a module delivery (students are not enrolled and/or no assessments take place).
  • An assessment component does not exist in SITS to map against.
  • The Marks are for a formative assessment activity.
  • The Moodle activity type is a Workshop, LTI, Moodle Markbook or multi-part Turnitin assignment.
  • You wish to Push Marks from a scale e.g. A-F.
  • You want to map one Moodle activity to multiple assessment components for different module deliveries.
  • You are administering Marks for more complex, non-standard subjects such as medicine.
  • There are Marks already in SITS (you can't overwrite Marks in SITS from Moodle).
  • The assessment component in SITS is not compatible with SITS Marking Schemes and SITS Assessment Types
  • The exam room code is not EXAMMDLE in SITS for exam assessments.
  • The assessment is a re-assessment or is late (please see FAQs for how to update Portico directly).


What assessments and activities am I able to use in the Phase 2 Pilot

The Marks Transfer Wizard currently only supports:-

  • Moodle Assignment
  • Moodle Quiz
  • Turnitin Assignment
