UCL Moodle Planned Maintenance activities are scheduled to happen during the periods with the lowest usage: between midnight and 7am UK time on weekdays.
The most typical window used is on Thursdays between midnight 6am and 4am 8am where a 5 15 minute outage will be used to deploy code changes. Some releases are known for the year ahead and are listed here, however, this is not an exhaustive forecast.
Note that for the 2024-25 Academic Year onwards we are planning to move the UCL Moodle and UCL Extend deployment window to 6am-8am changes (deployment is expected to take place during the 6am-7am window & 7am-8am is a buffer in case a rollback of the change is required). Some releases are known for the year ahead and are listed here, however, this is not an exhaustive forecast and deployments can happen on a weekly basis.
After reviewing Moodle usage & our deployment options, this is a the time during which there is even less usage usage as our current ~1am deployments and so will further reduce the least usage, thus ensuring we reduce the downtime impact of our releases to users.
We occasionally have bigger changes in the midnight-4am window for longer running updates.
