Vox and Time-lapse Data Policy

Users are responsible for backing up their own data. LMCB users should copy data to their own folder on confocalstore2 or another storage solution if that is more appropriate. External users must use DVDs, USB sticks or portable hard drives. All media must be scanned for malware and disinfected before being plugged into a microscope computer. Specific portable drives dedicated to image data are strongly recommended.

Datasets saved to local discs will be retained on the computers for one month after creation, after which time they will be identified for deletion.

Data greater than one month old will be deleted on the first Monday of the month or as soon as possible thereafter.

If the hard drive becomes particularly stressed, then it may be necessary for the data to be removed before the month is up. In this case management will backup the data and inform the owners of the data.

Data Transfer Rates

The data transfer rate from the time-lapse systems to the server is approximately 1Gb/minute, this may vary, but consider this when backing up data for the amount of time you should allow. USB transfers will likely take longer.
