Overview

The content bank can be used to create and store items that you want to reuse in FLOWmulti assignments. There is also a separate content bank which can be used to store elements of custom rubrics, which can be accessed via the Rubrics area in the Authoring role.

This guidance is focused on the content bank used for FLOWmulti exam papers and assignments, but both content banks are fairly similar.

Content Bank Navigation

  1. Create a new item in the content bank

  2. Manage existing items (import, export, share and delete items in bulk)

  3. View a list of related FLOWmulti assignments where items in the content bank have been added

  4. Demote an item from the content bank, plus options to preview, delete, copy or edit the item.

Creating material in the content bank

You may also be able to import questions you have already created on another platform into WISEflow’s content banks. For instructions on how to import existing questions from the VLE, see Importing questions from Moodle to WISEflow.

  1. From the Author Overview, click +Add an item under the Content Bank section.
Alternatively, you can click Go to Content Bank and then click +Add an item on the screen that follows.

  1. Enter a title for your item and optionally add a description. Click Save.

  2. You will now be taken to your newly created item, where you can start adding questions and features. The process for doing this is the same as it is for adding content to a specific FLOWmulti assignment. For detailed instructions see Creating an exam paper or assignment, Steps 5 - 14.

  3. Once you have finished creating your item, you can add it to as many FLOWmulti exam papers or assignments as needed.

Add existing material to the content bank

If you have an item in an existing FLOWmulti exam paper or assignment that you would like to reuse elsewhere:

  1. From the Author Overview, access the relevant assignment.

  2. On the assignment setup page, find the item that you want to reuse and click the link icon to add it to the content bank.

  3. The item can now be found in your content bank. The link icon will update and to a link with a strike through it. If you make changes to the item in your assignment, these changes will feed through to the version that is in your content bank.

If you would like to make changes to the item in the assignment without affecting the version in the content bank, click the link with strikethrough icon to convert the item in your assignment to a standalone copy. Now when you make changes to the item in your assignment, the item in your content bank will be unaffected.

Important: Once you have removed the link between an item in an assignment and the version stored in the content bank, you cannot re-establish that link.

Sharing items in the content bank

Sharing is managed through Author groups. For information on how to set up an Author group, see our guidance on Using Author Groups.

Sharing items in bulk

  1. Inside the content bank, click on the cog wheel icon.

Adding material from the content bank to an exam paper or assignment

You will have an option to add items from the content bank the first time you create an assignment, either by manually choosing these or allowing WISEflow to automatically pull these in based on specific parameters.

You can also add items from the content bank to an existing FLOWmulti assignment by selecting one of the options for this from the +Add new item button.

Deleting or Demoting an Item

Options to delete or demote an item from the content bank can be found by clicking the cog wheel icon or by selecting these options from the table of items (see Content Bank Navigation). The best and safest practice is to demote items, but the differences are explained below.

Deleting Items

If you delete an item from the content bank and it is linked to an assignment in WISEflow, it will remove the content from both the item bank and the assignment. If there are no standalone copies of the item on an assignment, this means that it will be deleted permanently from WISEflow with no way to recover the information.

Demoting Items

If you demote an item, this will remove it from the content bank but will convert any existing instances that are linked to an assignment into standalone copies.
