ELE understand if staff feel it is overly complicated. We , and we continue to pursue ways to improve both technical anonymity and the experience of markers and administrators. With approval, we also plan to send this guidance to Turnitin and to UCLU, to maintain awareness of the complexity. Meanwhile, however, many departments are eager to surmount the complications in order to exploit the benefits on online assessment, namely: convenient submission for students without queuing or traveling; relief for administrative staff who used to receive the paper submissions; quick, easy transfer between markers and other staff; relative portability for markers; access for markers from anywhere with a connection; no marking days lost to postage; legibility and potential contextualisation of feedback; future reference to feedback; and freeing up of expensive central London storage space.
