The Super-Resolution Facility (SuRF) at the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology (LMCB) houses three commercial super-resolution microscopes covering a range of super-resolution techniques, including Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM), localization microscopy (PALM/STORM) and Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) microscopy. Super-resolution microscopy allows the imaging of fluorescently labelled probes at a resolution of just tens of nano-meters, surpassing classic light microscopy by at least one order of magnitude. Recent advances such as the development of photo-switchable fluorophores, high-sensitivity microscopes and single-molecule localisation algorithms make super-resolution imaging rapidly accessible to the wider life sciences research community.
Available super-resolution microscopes: Analysis computers for the processing of super-resolution images recorded using the Leica TCS SP8 STED 3X (ORAC) or Zeiss ELYRA PS.1 (ZEN) are located in room 2.19A.
