Start-up and Shut-down

...

Starting the Vox

Turn on the Exfo X-Cite metal halide light source on the shelf behind the Vox (A). This will be used to look at fluorescent specimens down the eyepieces. The dial on the front is used to turn the light up or down. In no particular order turn on the computer (B), devices and lasers. The devices are all turned on through the Vox switch on the wall behind the system (C). The lasers are turned on using the switch next to the socket at the bottom of the laser unit (D).

The devices must be switched on before you open Volocity.

Opening Volocity

Log in to your user account and double-click the Volocity icon on the desktop. Create or open a new Library and save it in the C:\UserData directory.

Shutting down the Vox

Wipe clean any objective lenses you've used with lens tissue. Make sure you wipe around the barrel as well as wiping the lens to catch any oil that has run down the outside. Look around under the stage and clean up any spilt medium (medium has salts that can damage metal components). Quit Volocity and then in no particular order turn off the computer, Vox wall socket, laser switch and Exfo lamp.
