The information on this page contains step-by-step instructions for using the Moodle course mapping tool.

It includes:

  1. Logging In
  2. Selecting a Course
  3. Selecting Course Requirements
  4. Submitting a Course for Migration
  5. Checking Migrated Courses

1. Logging in

Access the Course Mapping tool via the following link:

Log in using your UCL username and password.

2. Selecting a course

Select the new Academic Model module code for the course you wish to have migrated.

3. Selecting course requirements

The different scenarios and options for migrating Moodle courses are listed below:

Select Option 1: Lift and shift

A module in Moodle contains several teaching coursesCopy all the courses to the corresponding new module code in new Moodle

Select Option 3: (for one of the courses)

Go to the Other Moodle Courses tab and copy and paste the link for each additional course.

A single course combines the teaching for several different modulesCopy this programme-level course to new Moodle

Select Option 4: This is part of a programme-taught course in Moodle, and submit the course for migration as per Step 4 below.

Repeat this action for each module which relates to this course.

A module in Moodle contains a course which wont be taught any moreNoneSelect Option 5: Don't need this any more

A module in Moodle contains courses which are not related to teaching

e.g. study skills, student area, extra-curricular work, careers, staff use

Copy the course content to the

Go to the Other Moodle Courses tab and copy and paste the link for each course.

NOTE: you can submit and repeat this action as required.

4. Submitting a course for migration

Click Submit to notify the Moodle Migration Team of the action required.

5. Checking migrated courses

5.1 You will be notified ...

5.2 Check that the migrated courses are as expected.

When a Moodle course is migrated to new Moodle not everything will be copied. This which wont be copied are:

  • Legacy course files (files uploaded to the system prior to 2012) 
  • Turnitin assignments
  • Blackboard collaborate rooms
