The different scenarios and options for migrating Moodle courses are listed in the table below.
Scenario | Requirement | Action |
---|---|---|
A module in Moodle contains a single teaching course | Copy the course content (and staff enrolments) to the corresponding new module code in new Moodle | Select Option 1: Lift and shift: copy module as is (including content and staff enrolments) |
A module in Moodle contains a single teaching course | Build this course from an empty baseline template in new Moodle. | Select Option 2: Create an empty course and transfer the staff enrolments only |
A module in Moodle contains several teaching courses | Copy all the courses to the corresponding new module code in new Moodle | Select Option 1 or 2 as before and copy and paste the links for each additional course into the Associated Moodle Courses section. |
A single course combines the teaching for several different modules | Copy this programme-level course to new Moodle | Select Option 3: This module is covered by a programme-taught course in Moodle and submit. Repeat this action for each module which relates to this course. Migrate the programme level course as shown in Section 5 below. |
A module in Moodle contains a course which wont be taught any more | None | Select Option 4: We don't need this any more, don't copy anything |
A module in Moodle contains courses which are not related to teaching e.g. study skills, student area, extra-curricular work, careers, staff use | Copy the course content to new Moodle | Refer to Section 5 to submit these courses for migration. |
None of the above - complex use of modules, programme levels, courses | Need to discuss and plan actions with Moodle Migration Team | Select Option 6: It's complicated - we need to talk, to have a member of the team contact you to discuss your needs. |
