General Information

Q: What are the major differences between Moodle 3.11 and 4.2?

A: Moodle 4.2 maintains the core offerings of Moodle 3.11 - you don't lose anything. However, the upgrade primarily focuses on elevating user experience and introducing a fresh theme for the new UCL Moodle. Our self-paced online course: Moving to Moodle 4.2, provides comprehensive insights into these enhancements.

Here are the primary distinctions:

  • Revamped Interface: Moodle 4.2 presents a fresh and intuitive interface along with new navigation features for a better user experience.
  • Activities Enhancements: The new version brings in exciting features and improvements to Moodle Activities, such as timed assignments, offering greater control to educators.
  • Advanced Course Management: The upgraded version comes with features like bulk editing and the flexibility to add content anywhere in a section, enhancing course management capabilities.
  • Improved Question Bank & Quiz: Moodle 4.2 offers better organisation and management of questions with improved Question Bank and Quiz features.
  • Enhanced Database Activity: The Database activity has been improved for easier use.
  • Upgraded Gradebook: The Gradebook has been streamlined and offers new reports and better navigation for a user-friendly grading experience.

Functionalities and Features

Q: Can I choose the content displayed on my Course Index in Moodle 4.2?

A. At this time, Moodle 4.2 doesn't support customisation of the Course Index. All course activity and resource types, including Text and Media areas, will automatically appear on the Course Index.

Q: Is Moodle 4.2 compatible with all course formats?

Yes, our testing shows that Moodle 4.2 is compatible with all course formats. Please note, you may need, on occasion, to tweak some page elements for optimal display. We strongly recommend checking your specific course format in our Demo platform for best results.

Training and Support

Q: Is there any training available for Moodle 4.2?

A. Absolutely! We offer trainer-led sessions that can be arranged through your FLTL. Alternatively, our self-paced online course  Moving to Moodle 4.2, is a resource to get up to speed with Moodle 4.2 at your own pace.

Demo Environment

Q: Am I able to update my course in the demo environment?

A: The demo environment is designed for exploration and is reset every two weeks. As such, any modifications you make will not be saved.

Course Rollover

Q: Should I wait for the Moodle 4.2 upgrade before rolling over my course?

A: The choice is entirely yours. You might prefer to rollover your course before the upgrade to prep or refresh content for the next academic year. Alternatively, rolling over after the upgrade allows you to familiarise yourself with the new interface and navigation whilst updating your course.

Troubleshooting

Q: What should I do if I encounter a bug or a problem in Moodle 4.2 demo?

A: If you stumble upon a bug or face any issues within the Moodle 4.2 demo, please report via the Issue Form.
