Introduction
This is the overview page for the phase 2 pilot of the Moodle/SITS mark transfer integration. This pilot will be testing the new marks transfer wizard (MTW) marks Transfer functionality that was developed following the phase 1 pilot. This wizard, will provide a more streamlined experience for end users, putting the core assessment component information at the centre of the tool, that can then be mapped to a selection of Moodle assessments.
Pilot Phase 2 will be the last pilot phase before an initial MVP (Minimal Viable Product) release into UCL Moodle Production, which we hope will be deployed in late March 2024.
Objectives of Phase 2 Pilot
- To test the new version of the Moodle/SITS marks transfer integration using the newly designed MVP of the Moodle Assessment Wizard
- To collect feedback on the Wizard to:-
- Improve the interface and workflow for a general UCL wide release in late March 2023
- To collect feedback and prioritise next step improvements and developments post March launch
Duration of Pilot
The pilot will be active from available from the 8th of January 2023 until Monday the 26th of February
Limitations of Phase 2 Pilot
When can I use Mark Transfer?
You can currently use Mark Push in Moodle if the following conditions are met:
- You have used the Portico enrolment block to create a mapping with a Module Delivery to your Moodle course.
- Either of the following scenarios is true:-
- Only one Moodle assessment activity is being linked to one assessment component in SITS.
- Only one Moodle assessment activity is being linked to multiple assessment components in SITS.
- The Marks to be Pushed are part of a course with a mapping to a module delivery (where students are enrolled and assessment takes place).
- An assessment component exists in SITS to map against.
- The Moodle assessment Marks are numerical 0-100.
- The assessment component in SITS is compatible with SITS Marking Schemes and SITS Assessment Types.
- For Exam Assessments, the SITS assessment component is the exam room code EXAMMDLE.

The Marks Transfer Wizard currently only supports:-
- Moodle Assignment
- Moodle Quiz

When can't I use Marks Transfer?
You can't use Mark Push in Moodle if:
- The administrator has not checked the Marks they wish to Push.
- You are not participating in the trial and do not have editing access on the relevant Moodle course(s).
- The Marks to be Pushed are part of a course without a mapping to a module delivery (students are not enrolled and/or no assessments take place).
- An assessment component does not exist in SITS to map against.
- The Marks are for a formative assessment activity.
- The Moodle activity type is a Workshop, LTI, Moodle Markbook or multi-part Turnitin assignment.
- You wish to Push Marks from a scale e.g. A-F.
- You want to map one Moodle activity to multiple assessment components for different module deliveries.
- You are administering Marks for more complex, non-standard subjects such as medicine.
- There are Marks already in SITS (you can't overwrite Marks in SITS from Moodle).
- The assessment component in SITS is not compatible with SITS Marking Schemes and SITS Assessment Types
- The exam room code is not EXAMMDLE in SITS for exam assessments.
- The assessment is a re-assessment or is late (please see FAQs for how to update Portico directly).
