Redcap XML

Note: The Redcap Data Dictionary Codebook PDF should be used for entry and verification. If this is not available, the CSV file alongside the PDF should be used.

Before the questionnaires are parsed, the labels in the CSV files are edited so that the first letter in the label is capitalised, and other letters are lowercase, and underscores are added where appropriate (e.g., c1a becomes C1_a). Parsers used to generate the XML required to import the questionnaire into Archivist: parse REDCAP xml and archivist_insert.

  • Issues may relate to concatenating questions, condition logic, label, nesting, and if multiple responses are needed. Question text, code list categories, and condition text should be ok (i.e., no typos).
  • Add missing statements.
  • Delete empty statements.
  • Remove quote marks from the condition logic values if they refer to code lists.
  • Correct code values which are not contained in the CSV file so they count numerically from 1.

For ALSPAC Redcap questionnaires only:

  • Ensure the labels match the edited CSV file.
  • The quote marks around the numbers in the condition text, which are in the CSV file, should be in Archivist.
  • The text response domains should be entered as follows, based on the Field Type in the CSV:
    • text = Generic text or Other
    • notes = Long text
