Starting the Vox
- Turn on the Exfo X-Cite metal halide light source on the shelf behind the Vox (see panel A in the image below). This will be used to look at fluorescent specimens down the eyepieces. The dial on the front is used to turn the light up or down
- In no particular order turn on the computer, devices and lasers. The devices must be switched on before the Volocity acquisition software is opened.
- The computer power button is at the top left of the front panel of the tower (see panel B in the image below)
- The devices are all turned on through one switch on a wall socket plug behind the system. The plug is labelled 'Vox' (see panel C in the image below)
- The lasers are turned on using the switch next to the socket at the bottom of the laser unit (see arrow in panel D in the image below)
- Log in to your user account and launch Volocity by double-clicking its icon on the desktop
- All data created in Volocity must be saved in a database called a Library. Create or open a new Library and save it in your folder the C:\UserData directory
- You should only save data in the C:\UserData folder. Don't save on the desktop, in My Documents or anywhere else
Shutting down the Vox
- Wipe clean any objective lenses you've used using the lens tissue provided
- Clean up any spills
- Quit Volocity before turning off any devices or lasers
- Shut down the computer
- In no particular order turn off the Vox devices at the wall socket, the laser switch and the Exfo lamp
