M05c - Quickmail Block

What is it?

The Quickmail  block allows tutors to send messages to enrolled users in a Moodle course, it's also possible to select (or exclude) recipients individually, by role, or even by group. When multiple participants are selected, Quickmail sends an individual email/message to each one, so they will not see the email address of any other recipients. The block has a mail composition text area, an area for attaching files, and the tutor can choose to send the message as a 'Moodle Message' or as an 'Email'.

Why use it?

Users can click 'View Sent Messages' to see a history of the messages they have sent.

Who can use it?

Tutors and course administrators can use the Quickmail block to send emails to students and staff enrolled on the course.

Before I start...

Consider whether it is better to use the Quickmail block or the Discussion Forum to send messages/emails to students. Like the Quickmail block, discussion forums also allow you to message/email groups of students.

How do I use it?

1. Go to your Moodle course and use the toggle switch to turn 'Edit mode' on.  

       2. On the right-hand side of the screen, click the arrow to 'Open the block drawer'. Check if the 'Quickmail' block has already been added. If it has not been added, follow the instructions below. 

     3. In the block drawer on the right-hand side, click ' + Add a block'.

     4. Scroll down and select Quickmail .

     5. You will then find the Quickmail block in the block drawer.

Caution

Using the QuickMail block in a course with hundreds of participants may cause the Compose Course Message page to load slowly.
