M13b - How group settings affect different activities
Each Moodle resource and activity allows you to define a group mode under 'Common module settings'. Three settings are possible, No groups, visible groups and separate groups, although there is often no difference in functionality between 'visible groups' and 'separate groups' in many activities.
For some activities, such as forums, wikis, chats and choices, the functionality does change according to the setting that is chosen. The group mode has no affect for resources.
The table below outlines how it affects activities.
